Melanie.
A.K.A. Freakshow, 6 Million Dollar PitBreed: Pit Bull

The Hubs found Melanie as a stray in 2002, running across a busy intersection in rush hour traffic. Even though she was a "free" dog, her medical history has certainly made her the most expensive part of our pack. When we found her she had worms, some form of mange, was underweight, and wasn't spayed. Since then she's undergone two TPLO surgeries and has been diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS), or "Dry Eye" (she no longer produces tears). If you have any questions about how we managed (and continue to manage) these medicals issues please feel free to ask!
She enjoys occupying foster puppies, spending our money, and acting like a total weirdo.

Nemo.
A.K.A. Baby Boy, My Shadow Breed: Pit Bull
We adopted Nemo the day after Thanksgiving in 2009 when he was 4 years old. He was originally found as a stray when he was picked up by AC and released to a rescue group that adopted him out to a family. Two years (and apparently 2+ kids later) Nemo was returned to the rescue because the family "no longer had the time" to properly take care of him. No worries now though because The Hubs and I snatched him up and took him home to play never ending games of fetch and catch up on lots of snuggle time.
He enjoys following us around, sitting in strangers laps, and tolerating my whims.

Heidi.
A.K.A. Heidi Montag, HidesBreed: Pit Bull
We pulled Heidi from a local shelter with the intention of fostering her until she found her forever family in April of 2011 when she was 3 and a half years old. Soon enough we realized that we were her forever family and officially adopted her ourselves. Heidi is proof that shelter dogs are not damaged or lacking in anyway. This pretty girl is currently works towards passing the Canine Good Citizen test and loves pretty much everything (cats included!).
She enjoys laying on top of Nemo, destroying kongs, and showing off her smarts.

Molly.
A.K.A. Professor Doggington, Big BearBreed: German Shepherd
Molly passed away at almost 14 years old on August 10, 2011. Born in December 1997, Molly has been with Mr. T since she was just 10 weeks old. She spent her entire life living it up in the lap of doggie luxury. In her prime, Molly could run 8+ miles at a time, fetch sticks from running rivers, and recite Shakespearean sonnets (at least she would have if she'd had the vocal cords for it). Despite all her athletic might, a chihuahua could still boss her around. She was by far the smartest dog I've ever known and became very independent in her old age (she loved us, but she pretty just did what she wanted).
She enjoyed swimming, laying out in the sun, and impressing everyone with her incredible smarts.

Oh. My. God. Nemo is gorgeous! The other two are precious too, but him I just want to sqqqquuuuueeeeze...
ReplyDeletewhat absolutely gorgeous dogs! i'm in LOVE with your pits! so cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable dogs!! I was a veterinary tech before I stayed home with the kiddos so I understand the KCS and TPLOs...poor thing. I used to work for an orthopedic vet and we did TONS of TPLOs. But it is definitely the best way to go. I have a pitbull mix who was also a stray. I Love pitbulls too. He's cuddling next to me as I type this. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove them all, but shepherds steal my heart every time. Molly has that wonderful "wise old dog" face, that speaks to a lifetime of adventures and experiences.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dogs, love your pits!
ReplyDeletelol ~ I love how you described your babies as if they were contestants on Wheel of Fortune!! what sweeties! Both of mine are from the shelters ~ one is a "special needs" dog who was paralyzed from the shoulders down by another dog shaking her...she's much better now and "enjoys" walks and chasing her frisbee. And my other shelter babe was returned twice ~ spent nearly 4 years at the shelter till a loving caretaker brought him into her home to "home-ready" him....as you can imagine, he Loves Not sleeping in a concrete cage. I just stumbled upon your blog from googling Rainwash Sherwin Williams color I think I might use in my bedroom ~ I'm rambling ~ think I'm going to really enjoy reading you!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! We'd love to start fostering but Izzy is keeping our hands full. She too enjoys spending our money, doing weird things and just being so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour pups are so beautiful! I have a weakness for pink nosed pits like Heidi. Wowza.
ReplyDeleteOMG - all your dogs are beautiful, but Heidi is just breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteYour dogs are all lovely, Heidi has beautiful eyes
ReplyDeleteI also have a $6MM pit bull! Mine has had two TPLOs, at least three major dentals (extractions due to periodontal disease - I swear I'm not neglectful - she had this problem when I got her), unexplained anemia (which we treated with very expensive medications for a couple years), and finally, a splenctomy this past August. Found that she had a huge tumor on her spleen which was likely a partial reason for her anemia (although I don't think we'll ever know exactly why). She is now pink and healthy and beautiful at the ripe old age of 11+. It's like having a puppy again. So despite the medical bills and the fact that I have two other dogs that also need medical attention from time to time, I love my expensive little girl and would sacrifice it all again just to keep her with me.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's great that she's feeling good now Trish! People can't believe how old Melanie is either - they're worth every penny!
ReplyDeleteMust add resident pup Moe!
ReplyDeletelol. Maybe I should add a special section for Moe!
