Twelve Weeks to Better Photos: Week Eleven, My Daily Environment

Whoa, just one more week to go? Crazy.

This week's assignment is all about documenting the ordinary things we see everyday. Click here for the full PDF of the lesson.

The idea is to learn to recognize photo-worthy parts of our everyday lives. You don't have to go out to fancy places to capture wonderful shots. (This idea is also behind the 365 challenge - taking a photo everyday for a year - which I also did as part of my 101 goals.)

The Assignment

This week's assignment was a fun one: photograph your daily environment. I started out with the intention to photograph even the mundane parts of my day, and to maybe even get in a couple self-portraits along the way, but that quickly degenerated into just taking photos of the dogs throughout the day...

This is a pretty accurate depiction of how the dogs are every morning. They are not early risers.

Gummy vitamins! They are really good...

It was such a pretty day when I was doing this assignment.

Gotta get those netflix movies mailed out!

I love Nemo's little bat-ears.

Heidi and Nemo snuggling. Her leg thrown over him cracks me up.

Melanie catching some shut-eye.

Nemo doing his Elvis impression.

Sleepy Heidi.

Nemo making it clear that he'd like to go outside right now, thankyouverymuch.

Heidi will squeeze into any available space, no matter how small, if it means she can get a little closer to you.

Heidi's favorite pillow? Melanie.

Nemo giving paw.

Sunbathing seniors. Maybe this spot by the window is their idea of moving to Florida?

By the end of the day, Nemo's ready to go back to bed.

What I Learned

The everyday moments are the ones worth capturing the most.

Still following along? (Kyria, you know I'm talking to you!)

Coming up next week: Camera Accessories! It's the final week of the course!

  1. Even though I am not able to actually do the 12 week tutorial with you, I sure do enjoy seeing the photos you take each week! Your dogs make quite the adorable models!

  2. Love all the doggie pics. They are such sweeties. I especially love Nemo's Elvis impression. We call that the "snaggle tooth" in our house :)

  3. I'm still here! I love all your photos of the pups! Also, I use the same vitamins as you do! It's like candy, but good for you. Ha.

I actually learned a lot about "my daily environment" while attempting a 365 project. It really is neat to try to capture what is around you, instead of always thinking that a photo has to be something extravagant. It's the little things that count! It's nice to re-realize that from time to time.
