Friday Randoms

A random post full of random musings!

(1) I got to hang out with this girl for a little while last night:

My rescue group recently pulled her from the shelter and she needed a ride to her new foster family (not us) after getting spayed. She was super sweet.

(2) I've been mulling over buying a new camera lens for myself for Christmas. I still love my 50mm, but I've found myself running into times where it isn't quite working for me (mostly when I'm tight on space). I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet though.

(3) I have GOT to start working out again. OMG.

(4) More on the camera/photography front, I think I may need to start watermarking my photos. I've never thought it was something I needed to do, but I've seen a few bloggers post about it recently and now I'm re-evaluating my no-watermark practice. What do you think about watermarks? Necessary or annoying?

And that's it for me this week. Happy Friday! I hope you all have a stupendous weekend full of wild and crazy happenings. I will be going wild and crazy by sleeping in late on BOTH Saturday and Sunday.

I know, I need to reign it in before my life ends up in shambles with my rebellious ways.

  1. Love the photo! I recently had a friend discuss the watermark on FB. She had watermarked the corner of a great photo of her dog. Yesterday she found out the watermark had been cropped out and the picture was on hundreds of websites. I would hate to have to watermark throughout the middle of the picture. On the one hand it can't be cropped out that way but on the other it changes the entire picture. Difficult situation for sure!

  2. Love how the cone doesn't stop her from hanging out the window!

  3. She's gorgeous (as they all are).

I am not worried about watermarks, personally, but if you are, then I'd do it!

  4. I find the large, across-the-whole-photo watermarks extremely annoying to see on casual blogs. That kind of thing should, IMO, be reserved for pro photographer's websites where people can preview their pictures.

The little watermarks on the bottom, side, or corner of pictures are so easily cropped out, I doubt they would help much really.

As for the lens, you should totally get a wide angle lens. They are great for outdoor and landscape pictures, great for low light settings (since they let in more light), and take awesome macro photos. (Can you tell I am lens shopping myself?)

  5. The whole pro- vs. not-pro-photographer thing is why I don't watermark them now. I'm not good enough to have people steal my photos like that, lol. The only reason I've started thinking about it again is because I don't want other blogs/websites to use my photos and posts as their own. Especially as Pinterest gets really popular, I've seen a lot of photos that aren't credited right. I don't know. I'm pretty lazy so I probably won't even make my own watermark, haha. Just something I've been mulling over.

And I love the idea of a wide-angle lens! It's just hard to choose between all the options!

  6. I don't know about the whole watermark thing ... as K-Koira said, those professional watermarks are very annoying to look at in a blog setting, and I suppose the others can be cropped out. I've recently started just putting the blog address in the corners of mine, NOT because I think anyone would want to steal them (they're not very good) but just because it seems like it is the "done" thing. However, as K-Koira also said, they are easily cropped out in most cases in the event someone would want to actually steal one. This is just me, though. YOUR photos, on the other hand, ARE good enough to steal! (Though of course I personally never would!)

  8. I use Microsoft Live Writer and so it's got an easy watermark button. I do it and I don't know if it makes a difference though.

  9. I agree with K-Koira and Tucker. I've started watermarking my photos too just because everyone else seems to be doing it:) And those big ones over the whole photo really spoil the look of them. There are sites you can go to that will check if any of your photos have been stolen, none of mine had, not good enough, lol.

I hope the cute little girl in you lovely photo finds her forever home soon.

  10. I would watermark. Even if it's small and in the corner. If someone does pin any of your photos, but they don't pink correctly by just using the image url or something, people will at least be able to see your credit and visit your site.

I'm the laziest person I know, so kudos on being pumped about working out!

  11. I'd be sad to see your gorgeous images marred by watermarks, but would totally understand too.

    Just my two cents.

  12. First let me say that I have been trying for TWO days to get onto your blog, and my computer just wouldn't let me. I could open all the others, but every time I clicked yours, I got "Internet Explorer Cannot Open This Web Page." It was so strange because I wasn't having that problem elsewhere. Although it has happened occasionally with Two Pitties. There have been several days I couldn't access that one. I wonder why this happens??

Second of all, let me vote for NO WATERMARK!!! Unless you have compelling proof that someone is making money off your photos or posting them as their own, I think it detracts from the quality of the photographs. I have seen casual bloggers doing this lately, as some commenters have noted, and I think it makes their photos much less appealing. I am going to cry if your wonderful photos suddenly have a big mark across them. Okay, maybe not really cry, but it will be a bummer!
