Some of you responded that you have the same issue, and even more said you wish you had my problem, lol! I can safely say that being a tightwad is agonizing sometimes, because it's inevitable that you'll have to shell out a good amount of money eventually - and that's never easy for me. I strive to one day whip out my credit card without second guessing myself! Last Friday I finally went for it though - albeit with my eyes closed when I hit "submit" - and ordered myself some new stuff online.
But I'm getting ahead of myself, let's rewind a bit...
Ages and ages ago I shared that I found this awesome table for only $80. I found it at a local consignment store that is sadly no longer in business. Seriously, I'm more upset by the fact that this store no longer exists than I should be. At least I found this table before they left this world.
| Ignore everything that isn't the table, none of that's there anymore :-) |
Since I bought it, it's sadly sat chairless and, consequently, useless. We've been so busy with other things (and we don't really eat at our dining room table anyway...) that we haven't taken the time to find anything to go with it. Until now. Enter: A Mood Board.

Okay, it's not the most impressive mood board ever, but it's a good starting off point.
I have been searching high and low (if you can call Googling a lot "high and low") for furniture that can stand up to our household. I needed things that weren't too expensive (but don't look cheap), easy to clean, and looked put together without being matchy-matchy. Oh, and the hardest criteria of all: Mr. T has to like it too. He's a hard sell!
In the end, these are the winners for the dining room:
- West Elm Scoop Back Chairs. I ordered six of them. Thanks to a sale, each chair was only $67 so they don't break the bank. And thanks to a visit to a West Elm store, T was able to sit in one and give it his seal of approval for comfort. They're also wood, so it's easy to wipe them down if sticky fingers or dog drool get on them. Unfortunately, my local West Elm didn't have six of these chairs in stock, so I had to order them through the website and am waiting for them to be shipped. Sad face for less-than-instant gratification.
- Frontgate Filigree Medallion Outdoor Area Rug. Normally I'd think this pattern is too traditional for my taste, but I think the green really updates the look. Plus, since it's an outdoor rug, if it ever gets dirty (which it most definitely will) we can take it outside and hose the entire thing off to clean it. The rug also has great reviews online, even from people who are already using it indoors, so I'm hopeful that this will hold up well and look good at the same time. (I'm planning on putting a quality rug pad underneath of it to give it a little extra cushion too.) It's also only $250 for an 8x10 rug which is a steal.
The only unfortunate part of this is that I had order it all online, so now I have to wait for everything to get here. I hate waiting. The only thing that makes it acceptable is how much I love getting fun stuff in the mail.
I'm exactly the same way. I finally caved and got a mattress set for my spare room, BUT, I'm still on the hunt for a bed frame...and a desk, and other misc. stuff. Home decorating can be frustrating at times.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! Can't wait to see how it all looks together! I love that big, bright rug!
ReplyDeleteOh, very nice! Those chairs are really fun, and I love Frontgate! Can't wait to see how it all looks. Did your shower curtain ever arrive?
ReplyDeleteAlas, no, the shower curtain still hasn't arrived. :( I'm hopeful that West Elm won't do me wrong twice.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks when you already have a hard time buying things and then don't get the instant gratification of seeing them all laid out. Online ordering is easier but I hate waiting too. Hopefully it will arrive quickly and you can have fun showing it all off!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I can't wait to see it all in place. Love both choices, btw :)
ReplyDeleteLove the table!
ReplyDeleteStop of by for a visit!

I'm interested to see how the outdoor rug works. In my old apartment I didnt have chairs for a year and everyone had to sit on my bench when eating.
ReplyDeleteooh yes! that rug is AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the table and the chairs, the carpet would be "not my thing" if I would see it in the store but with the table and the chairs it looks very fancy!
ReplyDeleteWow that looks like a West Elm table and you know how much those run for. You got an awesome deal.
