I can't be faulted too much though, to be honest Boo's integration into our house has been so seamless that sometimes I forget that we have a fourth dog. It only took a few days for her to learn that her crate = food, so she runs in there for every meal and to get her peanut butter filled Kong when I have to leave for work in the morning. She and Heidi are super playmates - they do laps around the backyard like it's a NASCAR racetrack - and Nemo and Mel are happy because Boo leaves them alone. It's a win-win-win-win situation.
Most importantly, she's settled into the snuggle routine right away.

Even though she's settled in at home really well, Boo's had a tougher time at adoption events. Being around so many different people and dogs in a new place is pretty overwhelming for little Boo. I can tell that she gets frustrated that she can't meet all the other dogs, and she just can't focus on the new people that are walking all over the place. It's something we've been working on though, and I hope that with more practice she'll learn to relax and settle down more. After only a few weeks she's already getting better, so I think with practice it'll only get easier for her.

Most importantly, little Boo has definitely made herself comfortable and is letting her personality shine. She's a real snuggle bug and a total momma's girl. While Boo loves Mr. T and will settle for a snuggle with him, Boo follows me around everywhere - something I find hilarious since Mr. T has been doing most of the walking and feeding lately so she probably "owes" him a little more love. I'm hopeful that her forever home will include a woman that Boo can bond with just as strongly since she seems to cozy up to women more easily than men.
In the meantime, I'm not about to turn down free excess cuddle opportunities, so Mr. T is just going to have to live with the injustice of the situation. ;-)
So glad she is doing well! She sure is a sweetie :)
ReplyDeleteShe has honey eyes just like Curious Georgia!

I think she did get a great foster home, and I know your guys will teach her what she needs to know.
ReplyDeleteLook at those gorgeous eyes! So glad she fits in so well with your family! PS - I think it is hilarious that you call your hubs Mr. T. I imagine your husband wearing thick gold chains and saying "I PITY THE FOOL!" as he walks around the house. I hope to never have that image leave my head... ;)
ReplyDeleteBoo sure is a sweetie! Looks like she is fitting right in!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have had so much progress with her! That's fantastic, especially for such a short time. You two are preparing her well for her new life and she is lucky to have found you.
