Adopted!

In addition to celebrating Pit Bull Awareness Day this weekend, we also celebrated Boo finding her forever home!

In the weeks that Boo lived with us her extraordinary cuddling abilities, eagerness to please, and most importantly her extraordinary cuddling abilities (so good it's worth mentioning twice) really won me over. Seeing Boo curl up in my lap every chance she got crushed any defenses I had (and when it comes to dogs, I don't have many to begin with). Finding her that perfect forever home became more important to me than ever.

The thing I'm going to miss most about Boo? Definitely the snuggles.

Luckily, Boo's forever home had been in the works for awhile. Remember when I mentioned that we were Boo's third foster home? Boo's first foster mom loved Boo - like loved loved her - and had been talking with a family member about how great Boo was to have. Her relative submitted an adoption application, and I knew right away when I spoke with her that she would be a fantastic Person for Boo. She described her old dog - who recently passed away from cancer - as "her heart" and talked about how she spoiled him and loved on him until the day he passed away. She obviously cared deeply for her pets and I knew she would take care of Boo as well I ever could.

When the Big Day came, we enjoyed one last car ride with Boo as we drove to see her new Person. I think Boo knew something was up right away. This was not our normal quick ride to an adoption event!

Boo sealed the adoption deal when I saw how she reacted to her Person when they met. It was clearly a perfect match. Boo's new Person is home a lot and goes on walks and hikes all the time, but since she's a little older she needed a dog that would be mellow at home. Since Boo is already five years old herself, it's a great situation. The perfect combination of exercise, companionship, and most importantly, snuggle time.

Seeing Boo and her new Person drive off was really sad (yes, I cried), but I know it's a great home for her. I'm so happy for the both of them and I know they're going to make such wonderful memories together. I don't know much about Boo's past, but I do know that her future will be bright.

Congratulations Boo. And congratulations to your Person, she got a wonderful companion in you.

I'm so glad you found each other.

  5. Oh, how wonderful! I've had such sad news lately with people losing dogs, both in the Blogosphere and friends IRL that seeing a dog getting a fresh start with a person who needs a dog to love just as much as the dog herself needs a person is just what I needed. Congratulations to Boo and to her new Person. May they live long, prosper, and go on many long hikes together! And of course, do lots of cuddling every day!

  8. Oh geez, I'm crying. She looks a little apprehensive in the photo of her looking out the window. I used to volunteer at our AHS a while back and the dogs just Knew when they found 'their person'. It was so cool to see their expressions change when they were Going Home. They behaved better, stood taller, looked proud and had a happy, content look on their face. I hope Boo and her new mom have a wonderful, long life together.
