Total Loss To Date: -19.1
Lots to say on the weight loss front so here goes:
First: I've been all over the map with my diet. When Molly passed away, there were a few days where I barely ate at all. And then there were a few more where I gorged myself on stuffed crust pizza. Neither of these things are healthy.
Second: I'm getting sort of sick of having to do P90X everyday. I actually really like P90X (I don't want to turn people off of the program, because I do like it a lot), but I'm tired of forcing myself to cram in a workout every single day after work because I'll be a "failure" if I don't. It's just exhausting. Part of me wants to quit now and focus on other things (like getting back to running and/or the gym), but another part of me wants to finish the 12 weeks. WWYD? Stick it out for the next few weeks of P90X or cut your losses?
Third: I've quit my Weight Watchers meetings. I'm still doing Weight Watchers online, but I didn't sign up for the meetings again. I just wasn't getting much (anything?) out of them and it's not cheap to do. Plus, I realized I wasn't tracking the way I should because I was having lots of thoughts like "my meeting's not until Friday and it's only Monday so I have lots of time to make up for this crap I'm eating." That doesn't work well.
Fourth: Due to the above, I used my scale at home to weigh myself this morning. I have no idea how my scale at home compares to the one at my meetings - it could make me a pound or two lighter or heavier, I have no idea. Consequently, I'm not stressing over this gain - I blame it on the scale change.
I think you're doing awesome. 19 pounds? That's something to be really proud of. As for the working out: follow your heart. Sounds like it's time to switch to something new. You can come back to P90X later if you start to miss it. It doesn't seem like you do well being forced into a daily routine for weeks and weeks, so you will stay more energized if you continue to mix it up.
ReplyDeleteThe number on the scale hasn't moved in awhile, but I've been feeling so much stronger lately that I've really been okay with it. I wish I could remember to convey that in my posts better!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about mixing it up - I've always liked switching it up and doing new things. I think that's actually why I've been able to stick with P90X for as long as I have. It has so many different workouts that it helps me feel like I'm doing new things all the time.
Ugh...I totally feel you on getting sick of a workout. Not sure how much longer you have on the P90X, but if it's not long, I'd stick it out and then do something different. If you'd rather call it quits, allow yourself permission to do so and just replace it with something more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration. I did P90x for a while and didn't finish. I get bored with doing the same thing all the time. I decided to concentrate on running and at the beginning of the year decided that I would do a 5K every month. I haven't quite got the 1 a month thing (due to scheduling conflicts) but have done 6 so far this year plus a 10K thrown in there. My next venture is a triathlon! Just do what makes you feel good!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the poster that said follow your heart. You don't want to force yourself to do something. You are so far from a failure, so stop thinking like that! Do what your heart and head feel to be right and you can't go wrong.
ReplyDeleteFinish the PX so you see the full benefit and then switch back to a mix of gym/outdoor running. Don't let a bad week set you back. As far as the WW meetings, I totally get you--I felt the exact same way about in-person meetings. Just keep counting points and you will break through your funky-mood scale-not-happy-practically-plateuing moments. =D At some point the scale will move down again. Woohoo
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alex, you've gotten so far! I think expecting anyone to do a 90 minute workout everyday is insane (INSANITY - as the next workout video is called). No one can be expected to keep that up. Switch it up - do P90X 2 days a week, do a nice, relaxing walk with the dogs another day, go running another day, do a yoga video another day, etc. Switching it up makes it so much easier to stick with it. Plus, like one of your Pintrest quotes says, "you're doing better than 100% of the people who are just sitting on the couch" - even if you're just taking a walk around the block. Just keep moving - you'll be fine! I quit WW too - I never got much out of the meetings - just set a day that will be your weigh-in day at home and continue to blog about it. That's a great way to stay accountable! But this week - shoooooooot! You've had a rough week - give yourself a break!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a lot of the same challenges you are. Not sticking to my diet, eating out for lunch, just ugh. I totally get it. Whatever you decide just make sure it makes you feel good about yourself. You're not a failure!
ReplyDeleteWell I think you should do whatever would keep you motivated. If I get bored or feel like I have to work out then i don't give it much effort and start to dread working out. It should be enjoyable, then it doesn't seem like working out. I think you are doing an awesome job! At least you are moving...I haven't worked out in weeks :(

ReplyDeleteI just started going back to WW. I really like the support and ideas and structure. Im sucg a rule follower. Im gonna start blogging about it as well.
ReplyDelete20 pounds is huge, and your week sucked. Give yourself a break!
What would you value more? Finishing a certain amount of weeks of a program, or changing up your routine a little? Totally depends on what's important to YOU.
ReplyDeleteYeah, don't stress over the scale. I went to my friend's house and weighed myself and I was like...whoa! I like your scale...I had "lost" about 5 lbs. There is SUCH a fluctuation!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have lost 19 lbs -- that's great! Focus on that...don't worry about anything else.
I am TOTALLY like you with the programs, and being type A about finishing and stuff. I think you did a post about books you haven't finished. I did too. There are only 2, I think. I have finished all the other ones, crappy or not, just becuase I couldn't NOT finish! Lame.
