There Isn't A Clever Post Title About Finding An End Table At A Thrift Store, So I Won't Even Try

For the record, I know my posts titles aren't particularly clever or inventive. I'm owning it though with this one.

I found this cute end table at the thrift store recently. It has that great mid-century modern look that's so popular right now, but it also has the super-special feature of being able to hide stuff behind two sliding doors.

Unfortunately, the general shape is where the good stuff ends with this piece.

While it looks like it should be made with high-quality teak, it's actually low-quality laminate stuff that's definitely showing it's age. There isn't even a real veneer here that I could sand and stain.

But then again what can you expect for $21.50?

So I'm thinking some paint is in this piece's future. Probably white. I think it'd still have lots of charm white, it'd be retro and neutral for whatever room it ends up in.

I just need a non-rainy, non-100* day to work on it first.

  2. Hi Y'all,

Sigh...thank Heaven my Human is more into me that fixing furniture. If she can't hide a blemish under a lamp or something, forget it. I've got to say, she admires your enterprise and we'll be back to see the progress on this neat end table.

    Y'all come by now,

  3. I just read a post about chalk paint and I immediately thought of that upon seeing this piece. Not sure it would keep with the overall feel though. Great find!

  4. Oh, chalk paint would be fun too! I'm not sure where this is going to end up though so I'm not sure if chalk paint is "neutral" enough. If I had a kiddo though I would totally do that and put this in their room.

  15. I love the table. Love the white idea. Have you considered painting the hardware?

  16. Jenny - It looks like the hardware is brass, so I'm hoping it will polish up. If it doesn't I have some black "hammered" spray paint that I've used before as my backup plan.
