New Goal: A Picture with Each Dog

I'm still setting goals because my 101 list isn't quite finished. You'd really think I'd be done with that by now right? I'm totally a slacker sometimes...

When my first dog Cookie died a couple of years ago, I realized that I didn't have one single photo of myself with her. She was such an amazingly awesome dog and meant the world to me, so it sucks to think that I don't have any photos of the two of us together. I don't want that to happen again.

My first dog, Cookie Monster

Even though I take a million pictures of the dogs, I don't have many pictures of myself with the dogs. I'm not too keen on having my own photo taken anyway and since I'm always behind the camera it's easy to avoid it. I'm starting to realize how ridiculous that is though. Between self-timers and mirrors there's no reason not to get a shot or two of myself. Plus, with a dog in the picture it's automatically a better-than-average photo, so hopefully I'll get more comfortable with my face being in them too.

So now I'm adding a new goal: take a picture of me and each dog together. I already have a couple of me with Nemo and Heidi, but I'd love to get a few more. The black and white of me with Nemo is one of my favorite pictures and I'd love to get more similar shots of me with my handsome little gargoyle. And I know I can do better than a few low-res shots from the webcam with Heidi.

A bonus would be getting similar photos of T and the dogs. It's so simple, but I know it's going to mean so much. I don't know why it took me such a long time to come up with this goal - but I'm glad that I did. I know it's going to mean a lot.

  1. This is a great goal, since I don't think a lot of people think about it. We have some family photos (both of us and both dogs), but they are rather old. This is a great reminder that I need to do something similar!!

  2. This is such a great idea! I also hate having my photo taken, but it would be nice to have photos of us with the dogs. Maybe I should start this also...

  3. What a good idea. I am also inspired to start. I try to take photos of myself with each of our fosters, though I don't have any with Stevie-girl yet. I am much more comfortable in a photo with a dog than by myself, because dogs are so natural and they are an easy thing to focus on. Good luck!

  4. I am guilty of the same. Plenty of pics of the the dogs with the "boy", but none with me.

  5. What a great goal! I am not a fan of being in photos. But like you, I have no pictures of me with my first lab and I wish I did.

  6. That is a good goal. I am often behind the camera too, and have many more photos of the Mr. with the dogs than myself with my own dogs... and it's for that very reason that I plan to have a photo shoot with Luna and I at some point. Have another photographer worry about it. Plus it will be fun to see what they capture. A good self portrait is hard enough to do, let alone when you throw a dog into the mix, or two dogs!

    Good luck with your goal

  7. akg - I would love to be able to hire someone to do photos like that for us, but unfortunately it's not in the budget. I think that's a great idea though. I'm hoping that I'll be able to snap a few good ones and, if I'm really lucky, I might be able to get T to take a few too!

  9. Hi Y'all,

That is something I've noticed with my Human's pictures...until my over the rainbow sis and me, there were no pics of her with the pawed ones...Fortunately, things have changed.

Glad you thought about and plan to fix it so you have pics.

  10. Awesome goal! The only decent photos of me with Shiva are the professional family photos we had taken last year as Christmas gifts. I am so glad we did it though as they turned out great. Perhaps this could be a solution? Get all six of you together in one room for a session? Is that even possible? Even if they aren't professional quality I am sure you'd have fun doing it on your own!

  11. This is a good idea! I have no photos of me with the pups. I have tons of pictures of them & brad with them. Is there a school near you? Maybe you could have a photography student help you out. I'm sure you'd get nice pics without having to pay the rates you would for a professional.

  12. Lacie - That's a really good idea! I hadn't even thought of a student. I might start with getting whatever shots I can myself, but I'll have to keep my eyes open for something like that in the future. Great idea :)
