I'm In Love

After more than a year of saving, I finally bought myself a DSLR camera. I was a little shaky spending so much money on something that can fit in large tupperware (I have to over-analyze every big purchase), but as soon as I brought it home any hesitations I had flew out the window.

As soon as I brought it home I took a few quick snaps of a couple of my favorite models. Two clicks and I was in love with this camera. Seriously heart it.

For those that are interested in camera type stuff, I bought a Canon Rebel T3i. I'd like to get a 50mm f/1.8 lens and a nice camera bag in the future, but right now I'm just using the kit lens and I'm loving it. At least now T knows what he can get me for our upcoming anniversary :)

I have a lot of learning to do. I think the owner's manual will be the next thing on my reading list. I may also revisit some photography lessons that I've found online so I can get more comfortable using all of the camera functions.

And check out this photo I took. Not because it's a great photo, but because you can see a reflection of me in Nemo's eye. How cool is that?!?

Heidi was really impressed with my new toy too.

Ok, she might not care, but I'm so excited that I'm downright giddy.

I love new stuff.

  6. You are already so good, and we're looking forward to seeing more. My favorite thing ever was this bag E bought me for my camera. I live that I'm able to use different purses and bags and just store everything in this. Best present ever: http://www.onabags.com/store/accessories/the-roma.html

  8. Mom uses a Canon powershot. It has a lot of bang but is smaller. She really, really likes the Rebel though. The picture quality can't be beat!!

  10. YAH! I got my first DSLR over 6 years ago and am still in love with it. My advise is to take a local photography class. So helpful with learning all the terms. The manuals help a lot also.

Major Gal - I get plenty of nose shots too ;)

  13. Thats pretty awesome. A DSLR is on my list for the future, but I think I need a better paying job before it'll actually happen!

  14. That is so exciting!! Your photo's already look fantastic, you will love the 50mm 1.8, I got mine on craigslist for 50 bucks brand new! Random question, I have been thinking about Nemo and wondering how old is he and how long have you had him?? His age might be posted somewhere but I couldn't find it and the curiosity is killing me!

  15. Kari - Ha! She totally is :)

    A&A - $50?! What a find!
We adopted Nemo the day before Thanksgiving in 2009 when he was four, so he will be six in a few months (although he's always looked older to me). My baby boy is growing up so fast! *sniff*

  16. Gah! How exciting! I bought my first DSLR earlier this year and I love it! It's such an addicting (and expensive) hobby, though. I bought a nice little 50mm prime lens for less than $100 and it takes fantastic shots. Beginners classes really pay off and there are some great DSLR books out there (Scott Kelby is fantastic).

  17. I sometimes get lazy about using my DLSR, mostly because I went with Nikon and when I add my super-duper lens to it, it can be downright exhausting to carry it around. But there's no doubt about it - the photos are far superior. I agree with Love and a Leash: a 50 mm and some basic editing software are key. Have fun!

  18. Yay for new cameras! When I got my Nikon D3100, I remember being completely shocked at how just having a nice camera can make your photos look SO MUCH better!!! I mean, composition is definitely a huge part of taking a good photo, but the camera helps a lot too!

  19. Ah Nemo! I feel bad I always thought he was at least as old as Mel, and really he is still a young chap with LOTS of years left :). He has the sweetest most deceiving old man face.

And random bit - I don't know how, but your blog hasn't been showing up in my reader lately. And here I was thinking you hadn't been blogging :)
