Weigh-In Day, July 15, 2011: I'm the Tortoise, Not the Hare (and that's OK)

Once again this week I had to remind myself of this truism:

I confess, before yesterday's WW meeting I was thinking about stopping these weigh-in posts each week. My weight loss has been super super slow and I haven't been 100% on top of it, so I sort of feel like it's poor effort on my part, and that's not fun to blog about. Plus, these posts don't get too many comments so I don't know how interesting they are to people.

And then I had a good weigh-in. With a good weight loss. And not only that, but I'm really starting to see and feel the benefits of my workouts. Granted, I haven't lost tons of weight while I've been doing P90X (although I blame my diet for that), but I feel so much stronger than I did in the beginning.

Weight Loss This Week: -1.4
Total Loss To Date: -19.0

I have biceps now. And triceps. I can see muscles forming in my quads and can feel it when I work my back. That's a pretty awesome feeling.

And anyone remember those pants I mentioned awhile back? The ones that I hadn't worn in forever because they were tight? Yeah, those pants are baggy now. I need to go shopping again.

So even though the numbers on the scale aren't cooperating every week the way I'd like them to, I know that I'm just a little bit smaller and healthier than I was before. I may be a weight-loss tortoise, but the tortoise made it to his goal eventually!

Slow and steady,

  1. Yay! that's all that matters! you're building muscle in the place of not muscle. good for you, i've heard p90x is pretty intense! I've been running with my dog lately and she's pretty happy about it, she's not in her kennel anymore during the day so i have to make sure she's always too pooped to rip any furniture. lol

  3. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you are just replacing your fat... Like you said, your pants are too big now, so remember it's the inches that count!

    Go tortoise, go!

  4. Oleander - P90X is intense, but I like that! Especially the strength workouts, I really feel like they're working for me. And I LOLed a little at why you run with your dog - I completely understand!

waldobungie - I am really hard on myself, I need to lighten up! But no matter what, I am sticking with it. Even if I have "re-start" every single day, I'm not giving up!

Kyria - "Go tortoise, go!" might have to be my new mantra. Love it! :)

  6. Great job!! Maybe you should try measuring your waist for a few weeks and see if you find some extra motivation there? I have a feeling P90X is building your muscle quicker than you are losing fat so you may actually be "losing" more than you think!!

  7. DM - Oh yeah, I'm definitely not going to stop posting these now :)

Melissa - I actually did take my measurements a few weeks ago. I keep forgetting to re-take them though (and when I do remember it's right after a meal!). I did my measure my arms though - they're half an inch smaller! Woot!

  10. If you lose weight slowly it is easier to keep it off. 19 lbs is awesome by the way, that's like losing a whole 1 year old child.

  11. Lacie - I love that way of thinking about it, haha. Maybe in a few more months I'll have lost a three year old?

  12. Yay! congrats congrats lovely lady. You are so close to the big 2-0 weight loss, and I wouldn't say 1 and a half pounds is super slow for only one week! Good work keep at it! PS I love reading your weight loss posts and it makes me feel motviated to continue with my own weight loss venture.

  13. It would have been interesting to see how your measurements changed. Even though the scale may not be reflecting your hard work week to week, I bet you've lost inches in your waist, legs, arms, etc.

    You should feel so proud!
