So I wasn't just celebrating Christmas and the New Year while I was away - I was on a cruise!! And, since the cruise was a Christmas gift from my parents, it was paid for!! Yup, please be jealous now.

I've never been on a cruise before so I had no idea what to expect. I was a little worried I would get sea sick and hate the whole thing, but I only got sick once (thanks to some seriously choppy water due to bad weather). By the next morning I was great again.
Although, since I'm practically an albino, I typically looked something like this. I was reapplying the sunblock every 2-3 hours and sporting a hat pretty much everywhere I went. It worked though! Not a single burn! I can't say the same thing for some of the other passengers on the cruise. There were a lot of pink and red people in the dining room after the first day...

As a gag for a friend of mine, we brought along this pink flamingo (named Ringo) and took photos of him during our vacation (think Travelocity's Roaming Gnome). If I get a chance I might add the video I put together of his adventures on the cruise. We all had a lot of fun with him.

Each night when we got back to our cabin, the housekeeping staff left us a new towel "animal" on our bed. They were hilarious and I loved them. I really want to buy a book about how to make these so I can do them when we have guests over. They cracked me up (I'm easily amused).

The beaches were insanely gorgeous so we spent a lot of time there. At one beach, we came across this very happy dog who was running up and down along the shore.

And someone who is way more skilled than I could ever hope to be created this alligator (crocodile?) in the sand. It was really big and had tons of detail. Very impressive!

And it wouldn't be a beach vacation without a fruity drink!

At our last port, we joined up with one of our sister ships and she sailed along with us back to Miami. It was neat to see her in the distance as we sailed home.

Plus, since the cruise was nice and long, it fulfilled one of my goals! It was a great way to start the new year!
Is anyone a big cruise fan? I've been thinking about what I would do if we decide to try another one again sometime. I'm really intrigued by the idea of going somewhere like Alaska.

My husband and I went on our first cruise last summer, and we loved it! I was a little worried about it too, but it turned out great.
ReplyDeleteOn our cruise ship, you can actually attend a class to learn how to make some of those little animals, so I'm sure you could find a book.
And an Alaskan cruise...I want to go on one so bad! I hear that they're amazing.

That's so awesome! Looks like you had fun :) Definitely a great way to start the new year.
ReplyDeleteI went on a cruise about 8 years ago and had a lot of fun. I think I'd enjoy it more now (I was in college then so didn't appreciate the ports as much) and my hubby and I hope to go in the coming years. They're so affordable now!
We are headed to the Dominican for 10 days and I will be using lots of sunscreen since I got my red headed fathers complexion

Jealous a bit, I'm scured of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing parents you have! Glad you had a great time and you came back without any sunburns :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I've never been on a cruise before and while it wouldn't be my first choice for a holiday, I certainly wouldn't turn it down! I hear the Alaskan cruise is amazing. I am glad you had such a brilliant time! That flamingo is hilarious.
ReplyDeletewe were on vacay also, and it was great, it was a little weird to be gone over Christmas, it's kind of like we missed it!
ReplyDeleteWe also brought a co-workers sock monkey along and took pictures of him doing random things. Too funny!
Yep, I'm definitely jealous! I know a few other people who have been on cruises and they've all had a great time. I would love to do it someday. I kind of have a fear of being in the ocean (or even on a lake for that matter), but surely on a big cruise ship you'd hardly notice!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your pictures so I can experience it vicariously through you. :)
Definitely jealous! I would love the be a guest in your home if you made those neat towel animals.
ReplyDeleteUh, yes. I am jealous. I also loved the towel creatures on our cruise, they did such cool things with them!
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds like heaven! And a free trip to boot. I'll have to ask for one of those next Christmas. We ended up in Spain for Christmas this year, which wasn't too shabby though! But I seriously LOVE cruises! Good food, good drinks, and beautiful scenery while your hotel moves with you.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you guys had a great time!
Um...shoveling my jealousy back into my DIY'ed storage box. Now. :) That looks like heaven. Especially in this weather!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love how you partnered up with the flamingo for the trips!
We went on our first cruise together in December, one week after we adopted Havi. It was amazing!
