Reading: Oogy: The Dog Only A Family Could Love

Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could LoveThis book is proof that I don't love every book that has a dog in it.  I didn't like this book. It was boring. And not really about the dog anyway. I kept waiting for something to happen but it never did.

I'm sure Oogy is a great dog. I'm sure his family loves him very much. It sure sounds like he has a great story, but this book isn't it. Pages and pages of how the author couldn't figure out what Oogy's story was; how the twins were going to school; how they went through the adoption process; how Oogy isn't a pit bull.

The writing was like someone was trying really really hard to mimic their favorite author - but they weren't succeeding. I didn't like the flow, and the moments that I'm sure were supposed to be poignant just felt artificial. The dialogue felt fake, which it must have been because 1) no one speaks like that and 2) there's no way the author could remember every conversation in such detail. There are other ways to convey what happened in a conversation, but this author couldn't work in conversation without using quotation marks. And despite the fact that Oogy is loved, I take issue with some of the methods they use to train him. Several times I wanted to reach out to Oogy and educate his family to help him out. Rescue him from his rescuers, because despite their love for him, they were misinformed.

I think this the most critical review I've written, but I don't know how else to write it. I just didn't care for this book. I'd love to meet Oogy because I'm sure he's a sweet dog, but I can't recommend anyone spend their time reading this one.

Sorry Oogy :(
