Still Setting Goals

My goals are really what keep me, and this blog, going. The project has really forced me to focus on the things that matter to me. Not just the important stuff, like giving to charity and saving more, but also how to live and have fun and do things just because I like them. It might seem ridiculous, but I've really had to learn it's okay to do something just because I want to. Not because I've read it's what you should do, but because I feel like it and that's a good enough reason.

Things have already changed a lot. My guests don't have to sleep on an air mattress anymore, we officially own one of our cars, and this guy has made himself at home here. So while I feel like I've gotten a little off track sometimes, overall I'm pretty happy with my progress.

I'm still working on completing my 101 list, but I've managed to add a couple more items to my long list of things to do.

-- Go on a Shopping Spree!! I've decided that "splurge" goals are vitally important to my progress. I don't treat myself enough, and I've never had a real "spree" where I just go and buy stuff I like and don't worry about whether it's on sale or if I have someplace to wear it. I know this isn't a "goal" I'll be to do after The Hubs and start having human babies (don't get excited people, I'm not pregnant!), so I want to have this completely irresponsible experience sooner rather than later.

-- Save Nine Months of Expenses. We are scary close to having six months of expenses in the bank. I'm 99.9% sure that we'll have it done by the end of the year (it just depends on  how we prioritize our savings vs. debt paydown goals), so now I'm upping the ante. I want nine months of expenses saved. It might be a little overkill, but since my job brings in the majority of our income and it's also less secure than The Hubs' job, I would rest that much easier with a larger cushion.

-- Touch the Floor with Flat Hands. This one might seem weird, but I really want to be flexible again. I want to be able to stand up, then bend over and touch the ground without bending my knees. No cheating! I've done it before, I know with a little work I'll be able to do it again.

I have 2 years and 2 days to finish the rest of my goals - I better get to work!!

  1. I will never be able to put my flat hands on the ground. But I will definitely go on a shopping spree!!

  2. I don't think nine months worth of savings is overkill. I'm so worried about someone losing a job that I don't know if I'll ever feel we have enough in the bank.
