Reading: The Book Thief

The Book ThiefPut simply, this book is amazing. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is an incredibly heartbreaking story set in WWII Germany. Narrated by Death, the story follows young Leisel Meminger as she is sent to live with her foster parents in the poor area of Molching, Germany.

I know that I have posted that I liked a lot of books that I've read, but if you read only one, read this one.  I don't have the words to adequately describe how much I loved this book.  It's well written, the plot unfolds incredibly well, you fall in love with the characters.  Zusak's writing style is simply brilliant and unforgettable.

From the book, this story is about:

"It's a small story really, about, among other things:
* A girl
* Some words
* An accordionist
* Some fanatical Germans
* A Jewish fist fighter
* And quite a lot of thievery"

  3. I'm a high school teacher and I actually went to a conference that told us how this is a great book that would work well for our urban kids. It's on my bookshelf, but I haven't had the time to actually read it yet...
