Reading: Catching Fire

This is the second book of The Hunger Games. Catching Fire continues the story of Katniss after she survived the Hunger Games in the post-apocalyptic world of Panem. While this book is good, it doesn't really stand alone. The first book, Hunger Games, has a plot that rounds out nicely in the end. It leaves room for additional books, but it also has it's own story line that wraps up by the time you're finished reading the novel. In contrast, I felt that this book only told half a story. I'm sure that this was purposely done, after all there was no guarantee that the first book would be a hit and even allow for sequels, but this book ends on such a cliffhanger that it only opens up more questions instead of concluding the story that had been started. Highly unsatisfying.

Nonetheless, it was a decent read and I'm looking forward to reading the final book when it's released. I feel like I should mention again that this is a "young adult" book, not a general science fiction novel. The book is well suited to teenagers but is still intriguing enough for adults to enjoy as an easy read as well.

  1. OMG no wonder we seem to have so much in common you’re a petsie (pet nestie)! Wow that’s crazy that I found you outside of the nest. I’m an “old timer” from the pet board but I just started looking at the board again because Jeff&Em was looking for me yesterday. My nest name is FoxinFiji which is my honeymoon bio name/account (back in the day everyone used to use the nest bios and would create a new account for their different bios). What a small world. How long have you been on the nest/knot?
