Well now, they look like this!
Oh what a difference a dozen cans of spray paint can make!
Yes, I spray painted them. No, I would not do it that way again. One quart of glossy white paint would have been easier and cheaper but I’m new at this painting thing and didn’t do that. Sosumi.
They still turned out pretty well though and they’re getting moved into our bedroom. That makes these the final project for 2009! Hurray!
Wow! You did a fantastic job! They're gorgeous! Great rescue! They look amazing!

Wow, usually I think white paint on furniture is overdone, but these look FABULOUS. Really, truly, great.
ReplyDeleteWow they look great, I wish my projects ever came out that nice!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome! I actually think the spray pain is how I'm going to go on a dresser I'm working on--but it has a veneer, so when I tried traditional paint it did not stick!
ReplyDelete@ kcpokergal: have you sanded your dresser at all? That will really help the paint stick! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteThey look great! Good work!
ReplyDeleteYou got those on craigslist?! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look great!!! Did you spray paint the hardware too?
ReplyDeleteMicah -
ReplyDeleteI did spray paint the hardware too! I just used a black that was supposed to look "hammered". The handles are pretty thin though so it's hard to tell!
They look really lovely, and although you have your doubts about the spray paint, it probably helped you achieve that wonderful smooth look. I also love how much faster spraying can be ;)
ReplyDeletelookin good! i love painted furniture, but am affraid to pick up the paint brush and actually do it - maybe someday! :) great job!
ReplyDeletevery nice!
ReplyDeleteI think the spray paint worked just fine :)
Those are gorgeous! Can you come decorate my house?
ReplyDeleteOh, they turned out so fresh and hip. You did a great job. HAPPY NEW YEAR
ReplyDeleteLove them! Love the new blog layout! Love is all around!
ReplyDeletegreat job! I would recommend priming with a brush, then spray painting... it would take less paint that way. ;) just my 2 cents!
ReplyDeletein any case, they're done, and they look fabulous!
Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteoh my goodness. i have some major dresser envy now~!
ReplyDeletegorgeous. oh how i love the power of paint!
happy new year.
Those look great! I found out about the need for lots of cans of spray paint when I did our extra long coffee table. Oh well, you live and learn! Nice work
ReplyDeleteOnly a dozen cans, eh? :) Wow.
ReplyDeleteBut what a wonderful transformation! Glad you're enjoying the new look.

they turned out great, paint can change anything and make it better
ReplyDeletethey look great! Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteSo very beautiful! I'd love to find something similar to these on craigslist, still hunting!
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side I hear all the time that spray paint will often look more even. So they may not have turned out as nice painting them with a brush. :)
They look great! love the contrast of the hardware. I just finished my first dresser, will hopefully be posting it on my blog within the next couple of days :) Great job!
ReplyDeleteThey look amazing. Wonderful job and so pretty now. Clean and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind.... I used your photo on my blog:

Of course I don't mind Micah! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteLove the simple clean lines! Great job
ReplyDeleteLove the finished product! Were the dressers veneer before? Just wondering if you did any sanding before painting. I have a similar project budding with a veneer dresser and I'm wondering if I should sand or just paint over it.
ReplyDeleteBrandon - Yes, the dressers were veneer, but regardless you should do at least a light sanding before painting. Sanding the surface a bit will help the paint "stick" better and you'll get better coverage.
ReplyDeleteIf you prefer the look of stained wood though, there's no reason you can't do that with a veneer piece too. My original plan with these dressers was to sand and stain before I decided to paint. The first piece I refinished is veneer and it turned out great:

Hope that helps!
Life is crazy!---Just TODAY we scored the exact same dresser (short one) for $20 on craigslist! We're going to have to decide between paint and stain. Our initial impulse is to stain but we'll see how the convo goes after reviewing this post!
