Reading: Walking In Circles Before Lying Down

I have just finished reading Walking in Circles Before Lying Down. I'll say it now, I got a kick out of this book. It's about a woman with a nutty family who suddenly finds herself able to talk to dogs. She dates the wrong men, lets her mother and sister walk all over her, and isn't quite able to make her dream of writing a novel a reality. Her life is far from perfect but she's trying hard to do the right thing and come out on top in the end.

Whether she's just delusional or the dogs really do speak to her, I could really relate to this character. The way the author describes her feelings towards her pets definitely rings true for most animal lovers. And as a dog owner, I cannot tell you how many "conversations" I've had with my dogs and how often I wished they could tell me what's on their minds. Although sometimes I think it would just be "Food Food Food Food Food Food Food Food Food Food."

My favorite part? She has a dog that's described as a pit mix "with a white flame on his chest" that "looked like an oversize toy some child abandoned when the basement flooded." Now who does that remind me of?
