I was hooked with the first book but these past two books have been a real let down for me. I don't like any of the characters anymore! Bella has no self-esteem, is totally driven by her hormones, and is perfectly happy stringing along her friends if it means a good time for her. Edward is seriously controlling. If this novel was a "Dear Abby" letter asking if their relationship was a lasting one the answer would be a resounding no. Not to mention Bella's father. His daughter gets manhandled by one of her "friends" and he encourages it? Unbelievable. Maybe I'm just too far removed from the mushy gushy feelings of teenage love to appreciate Bella's relationships with these guys. For what it's worth, I do think the books are well written. It's pretty telling that I'm finishing these books off a day at a time, they are definitely page turners. They are easy to read and compelling enough to keep me going through the end. I am interested to see how it all turns out in the final book. While the past two books haven't done it for me, I'm still holding out hope that Bella and Edward (and the author) will make it work in the end.
