As promised, here is my big dresser makeover! Hurray! To refresh your memory, the before:
And After:
See how it doesn't have that orangey hue anymore? That's thanks to Minwax's Dark Walnut stain. It took some serious sanding, but it happened. How serious was the sanding you ask? Take a gander at Exhibit 1:
The process for this was much like with my other refinishing project. Sand, Stain, then Poly. I used a different stain this time, but stuck with the tried and true Minwax Wipe-On Polyurethane. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I really do love the Wipe-On poly, it's almost too easy to use. I've also found that I really like richer, deeper stains so once again I used two coats to get a dramatic hue. Followed up by two more coats of poly and there was no way I could go wrong.
Now this great new piece has taken up residency in our master bedroom, and my T-shirts have found a new home. I can't wait to finally pull it all together and see how the room turns out.
looks great! Love the dark color!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kermie!
ReplyDeleteVery mod! Great job! Isnt the sanding part tough? Sometimes I wonder why I even start these projects.. then I finish, and start another.. just to sand again. sigh.. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the finish on this. It's beautiful! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to the Show & Tell! ;)

Thanks! Sanding is definitely the hardest part in the process. Luckily, once that's done the staining is fun and easy so there's something to keep you motivated. I'm keeping my eyes out for a new piece to work on now so hopefully I'll have another project to work on soon. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic! I really like the dark stain.

ReplyDeleteLove the dark stain-really good job.
ReplyDeleteIt really updates the piece!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a great transformation. I have never sanded and stained anything. I always sand a little and paint. It's so much easier. But, we have a desk that we want to keep stained. So, I'm going to try your product recs from the other links from thrifty little blog. Thanks for the info. =)
